United Bay Community Credit Union and Access First Federal Credit Union Become One Credit Union

United Bay Community Credit Union and Access First Federal Credit Union will become a single credit union effective May 1, 2012. As stated in the March TAKE INTEREST newsletter, UBCCU had been looking for a credit union that was a good synergy fit, and Access First Federal Credit Union fit that part of the puzzle.

The merger will create a credit union with $200 million in combined assets and over 27,000 members in six counties. UBCCU has members in Bay, Midland, Saginaw and Arenac counties while Access First Federal Credit Union currently serves Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties. Access First operations will begin to merge in the beginning of the second quarter, and should be completed by the end of the fourth quarter.

"We anticipate a smooth transition, thanks to the initial effort we put into finding the right partner," said Gary Klein, CEO of UBCCU, "Access First Federal Credit Union has a wonderful, loyal membership base and operates with a similar philosophy and value structure to our own."
