2010 High School Scholarships

United Bay Community Credit Union will provide a $200 scholarship to a high school senior who is pursuing a post-secondary education. One scholarship will be awarded to a student at each of the following high schools:  Garber High School, Pinconning High School, Western High School, Central High School, All Saints High School, John Glenn High School and The Wenona Center.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements include:
  • A high school senior at one of the following high schools: Garber High School, Pinconning High School, Western High School, Central High School, All Saints High School, John Glenn High School and The Wenona Center.
  • Plans to attend any post-secondary education institution. Eligible education institutions include universities, colleges, technical schools, trade and vocational institutions. A letter of acceptance from the educational institution is required. The letter may be submitted with the application or at a later date.
  • A high school GPA of a B- or better.
  • A written essay on the Importance of Having Good Credit. The essay should be a minimum of 75 words and no more than 150.
  • UBCCU employees and board members are not eligible.

Application Process

In order for an application to be considered, all applicants must submit the following information to United Bay Community Credit Union by Tuesday, April 6, 2010:

  • completed scholarship application (link at right)
  • high school transcript
  • essay
  • letter of acceptance to any post-secondary education institution (Acceptance letter can be submitted at a later date or prior to payment, if selected.)

Selection Process

A committee will review the applications and select the scholarship recipients. Applications will be judged based on a good mix of extracurricular activities, work experience, the written essay and GPA. The essay is judged on content, creativity, and clarity.

Winners will be notified by Tuesday, May 4, 2010. A check will be paid directly to the student. The funds may be used for tuition, room and board, books or materials.
