Fraud and ID Theft - Protect Yourself

Fraud and Identity Theft can occur at anytime. It is important that our members realize that they need to be proactive in protecting their accounts and information.

UBCCU employs many different systems, policies, and processes to ensure the security of our members information. We will never contact our members and ask for information we already have on file, such as account numbers, PIN numbers, balance limits, etc. However, if you are communicating with the CU, we may ask you some questions to verify your identity, such as the last 4 digits of your social security number, or your date of birth.

If you contact the CU via e-mail, please do not include your account number or ATM/Debit/Credit card number in that message. E-mails are not secure when being transmitted over the internet. If you need to send specific information or account numbers, please use our secured message form.

Some ways to protect your account information:

Only carry ATM/Debit/Credit cards that you use regularly
Memorize your PIN numbers, do not keep them with the cards
Sign up for eStatements - don't let your statment get stolen from your mailbox
If using your card online - make sure it's through a reputable site and that they have secured your information.
Shred documents that contain personal and/or account information
If someone contacts you, do not give them personal information. If they say they are at your financial institution, tell them you will call them back. Then call the number for that instituation and ask for the person that called.
Monitor your account statements for unusual activity
